How To Clean Your Wood With Sodium Metasilicate

Cleaning wood is easy, but it can become a mess if you don't know what to use and how much. Let's tell you about our favorite cleaning solution: sodium metasilicate.

What is Sodium Metasilicate?

Sodium metasilicate is an effective and safe cleaning solution. It works by breaking down grease and oil while removing dirt and grime from the surface of your wood.
This product is commonly used in cleaning homes, offices, and car interiors. However, it can be used on any wood surface and will help to restore them to their original state.

What Does Sodium Metasilicate Do?

Sodium metasilicate is a natural cleaning solution that breaks down grease, grime, and dirt on your wood surface. It will leave your surface looking clean, shiny, and free from dust or other debris that may be present on it.
This product also has anti-static properties that help to prevent static electricity from building up within your home or office space, so you won't get shocked when touching metal objects during use!

Get some Sodium Metasilicate powder.

First, you'll need to get some Sodium Metasilicate powder. It's usually found in the paint section of a hardware store, but it can also be ordered online if you don't have a local store that carries it. The product is used for cleaning metal; however, it can also be used to clean wood! It comes in a white powder form and is inexpensive and easy to find.

Mix it with water

To begin, mix the powder with water in a bucket. The ratio of powder to water you use will vary depending on the type of wood you're cleaning. Still, it should be somewhere between 1:3 and 1:5. For example, if you were using Sodium Metasilicate for oak (which needs vigorous cleaning).

Your mixture was at a 1:5 ratio: one part Sodium Metasilicate to five parts water. Add about seven ounces of sodium metasilicate to three gallons (about eleven liters) of water. Now that your mixture has been made, it's time to apply it to your furniture piece! Apply the solution to the wood surface, ensuring every inch gets covered with the solution. Be sure no space is left out.

Apply to the wood surface with a sponge or cloth

Use a circular motion and apply a small amount of Sodium Metasilicate to the wood surface, scrubbing as needed.

Rinse off excess water with clean water from a garden hose, being careful not to apply too much pressure, which may cause splintering or cracking of the wood's surface

Rub hard

You may be tempted to give your wood a quick wipe with the solution and call it done, but this won't get all the dirt off. You need to rub hard for this solution to work correctly. It can be done by hand or with an old rag or brush, depending on how much time you want to spend and how dirty your wood surface is.

The more time-consuming option is using a sponge or cloth and dipping it into the solution before rubbing it along your flooring surface (or whatever other type of wood you're working on).

Once you've finished cleaning one side, flip over your rag or sponge, rinse it out in cold water until all traces of sodium metasilicate are removed from its fibers—this will ensure that no grime has been left behind—and then repeat this process on every side until all surfaces have been cleaned thoroughly.

Rinse and dry

After you've wiped down your wood with Sodium Metasilicate, you may notice it's a little damp. If so, wipe it down with a clean cloth. You can use either an old towel or a brand new one—it doesn't matter which one you choose as long as it's clean and soft.

You can use Sodium Metasilicate to clean your wood.

    Water

You can find the powdered form at hardware stores and pool supply centers. If unsure if this is the right product, ask an associate at the store.

To mix the powder with water and apply it to your wood, add a small amount of water to a large bucket or container for mixing.

Add a tablespoon of sodium metasilicate powder and mix thoroughly until it's dissolved into the solution. You can use an electric drill with a paint mixer attached (this works great) or stir by hand—either way will work just fine!

Once mixed, pour the solution into a spray bottle(s). You will probably want two bottles so one can be used while the other is drying out between applications. Use these bottles sparingly; don't go overboard because too much could damage your flooring!
